About Us

Key Nurse Leaders holds a unique position within the executive search industry. Weonly work with leaders focused in women’s, children’s, maternal/child, and perinatal health. This includes nursing management at the operations, administrative, and service line levels at hospitals nationwide. Founded in 1996 as Berry and Associates by Mike and Deb Miller, the company today is known as Key Nurse Leaders. KNL has placed maternal/child leaders in nearly every state.

Mike has over 18 years experience in healthcare, sales, and consulting. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, with a degree in Managerial Economics and a master’s degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. Mike’s experience in women’s health began in 1991 as a pharmaceutical representative with one of the Johnson & Johnson Companies. In 1993 he left that role to migrate back to Nebraska and began a recruitment career with a large national recruitment firm. Deb Miller is a graduate of Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS with a degree in Kinesiology. Deb is administrator and database manager for Key Nurse Leaders.

We know more maternal/child leaders who will become candidates in the next yearthan any other recruitment firm in the nation. While the internet has made it far easier for in-house recruiters or other healthcare focused executive recruiters to find candidates, most of these candidates are passive or won’t fit your needs. Only regular contact and meaningful interaction will identify the truly serious candidate and best match. That’s where we come in.

Working with Mike and the team at Key Nurse Leaders was so different then working with other recruiters. I was interviewed before I even talked about jobs that might be available. He listened to what I was saying. Mike asked pertinent and tough questions while providing feedback that helped me clarify what I was looking for and how my strengths would benefit others. Mike was more of a Career Coach then a recruiter. He was concerned with my personal well-being, my family’s well-being and then my career goals. Mike’s knowledge of the industry surpassed all of the other recruiters I talked with. Mike worked hard to find the right fit for my family and me and I know I can trust him 100 percent to give me good advice. He did not want to fit me into a job, but he truly wanted the job to fit me. Eight months into my new job and I could not be happier.
